Overdue Update

The last two weeks have been pretty busy - but a lot of fun.

The week of May 15th was the week to work on Scissors By Any Other Name by the Cats Whisker's. I'm going to love this project, but so far it's been moving along slowly. I think I may have figured out a more "efficient" way of doing the main design and am anxious to give it a try the next time it comes up in rotation! But the progress to date is shown in the following picture.

The next up in my rotation was the Swan Sampler by Whimsey and Wit. I wasn't able to work on it at all until Thursday the 26th. But the reason was a very good one. Every other year (odd years), Albuquerque holds the Albuquerque Fiber Arts Fiesta. It's an absolutely wonderful show sponsored by most of the guilds in the area. The guilds are there to show visitors what they do and display some of their work. There are many, many vendors from around the country with almost anything "craft" related you could want. Of course, there are quilts galore there as well!!!

The vendors include quilting supplies such as machines - everything from the large "free arm" (I think that's what they are called), to your "average" machine that embroiders everything you could want. And there was fabric everywhere. There was plenty of yarn; the weavers, spinners and knitters needed their representation as well. Beads were well represented - to buy and make your own creations as well as booths selling the treasures they made. Clothing was also represented; jackets, scarves, even some feet "babying" sandals.

The friend that I visit in Albuquerque is on the committee that works hard to put this show on and she is always wonderful about adding my name to the volunteer list - and I wouldn't have it any other way!!! I spend 3 full days there and while I will volunteer most of that time, there is always time for shopping and wishing over all the wonderful things available. And while I volunteer, some of the positions give me time to stitch as much as I want.

Sometimes I couldn't concentrate enough to work on the Swan Sampler, so I worked on my friend's Christmas present instead. Unfortunately, a picture of this piece will not be posted until the end of the year as I don't want to give away a secret! But I was able to do some stitching on the sampler as well. I was able to finish the animals on the "female" side of the sampler at the bottom by the tree.
I really do need to get the truck of the tree on the left stitched soon - it really shouldn't be floating in air like that!!!

I was also able to get started on the house that is central to the upper portion of the sampler.

I just love the "funky" blue and light gold roof!!!

That's all for now. I hope everyone took time to remember our fallen soldiers as well as soldiers still fighting all over the world, over this Memorial Day weekend and that you were able to spend time with family.

Tomorrow is the 1st of June - this year is going so quickly and I must get back to my stitching!!!

Take care, hug your friends and family - and make time for some needlework!
